Breaking: President Bola Tinubu sacks Wale Edun and Arch. Dangiwa, elevates Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of Finance

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has carried out a significant shake-up within his cabinet, relieving two key ministers of their duties in a move that signals a fresh recalibration of his administration’s economic and infrastructure agenda.

In the first announcement, the President dismissed the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, bringing an abrupt end to his tenure. In his place, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been nominated as the new minister, pending confirmation processes. Darma, who holds a PhD, is expected to steer the ministry amid growing concerns over housing deficits, urban planning challenges, and rising construction costs across the country.

In a separate but equally consequential decision, Tinubu also removed Wale Edun from his position as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. He has been replaced by Taiwo Oyedele, a respected fiscal policy expert widely known for his work on tax reforms and economic strategy.

The twin appointments come at a critical time for Nigeria’s economy, which continues to grapple with inflationary pressures, currency volatility, and fiscal reforms. Oyedele’s appointment, in particular, is likely to be closely watched by investors and policy analysts, given his reputation for advocating structural tax reforms and improving revenue generation.

While the presidency has yet to provide detailed reasons for the removals, the reshuffle is being interpreted in political and economic circles as part of Tinubu’s broader effort to inject new energy into his administration and accelerate policy delivery.

Observers note that changes at both the housing and finance ministries could have far-reaching implications. The housing sector remains central to job creation and infrastructure development, while the finance ministry plays a pivotal role in shaping macroeconomic stability and investor confidence.

As the new nominees prepare to assume office, attention will now shift to how quickly they can translate policy ideas into tangible outcomes, especially in areas directly impacting Nigerians’ cost of living and economic opportunities.
