Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the Allied People’s Movement (APM).
The announcement came during a high-profile Unity Mega Rally held at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan, where the governor also unveiled a political alliance between a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the APM. The event featured the signing of an alliance agreement and the presentation of candidates for various positions on the APM platform, including Bimbo Adekanmbi as the party’s gubernatorial candidate for Oyo State.
Accompanying his presidential bid, Governor Makinde launched the Reset Nigeria Movement, a nationwide mobilisation platform focused on renewed governance, economic revival, and improved national leadership. He also introduced a dedicated Seyi Makinde presidential campaign website to serve as a central hub for policy discussions, volunteer registration, grassroots coordination, and engagement with supporters across Nigeria and the diaspora.
The move reflects ongoing realignments within Nigeria’s opposition politics. By opting for the APM, Makinde aims to build a coalition strong enough to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
Known for his emphasis on infrastructure development, fiscal discipline, security, education, and economic initiatives in Oyo State, the governor enters the race with a record of performance that his supporters believe qualifies him for national leadership.The declaration has generated significant reactions across the political landscape.
