Paystack, the Nigerian payment technology company owned by Stripe, has placed its co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, on suspension following an allegation of sexual misconduct involving a junior staff member. The claim began circulating widely on social media on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, triggering swift public reaction.
In a statement shared with TechCabal, the company confirmed that Olubi has been temporarily relieved of his duties while an internal inquiry is underway.
> “Paystack is aware of the allegations involving our Co-Founder, Ezra Olubi. We treat issues of this nature with utmost seriousness. Effective immediately, he has been suspended from all responsibilities pending a formal investigation,” the company stated.
“To protect everyone involved and uphold the integrity of the process, we will not be making additional comments until the investigation concludes,” Paystack added.
Old Explicit Tweets Resurface, Fueling Public Backlash
The allegation has reignited attention around several controversial tweets posted by Olubi between 2009 and 2013. The posts—many of which contain explicit sexual references, jokes about colleagues, and disturbing comments involving minors and sexualized anime characters—resurfaced on Thursday and quickly dominated conversations on X (formerly Twitter).
One widely circulated tweet dated May 23, 2011, read:
> “Monday will be more fun with an ‘a’ in it. Touch a coworker today. Inappropriately.”
Other resurfaced posts described erections during meetings, comments about wanting to photograph a colleague’s thighs, and sexual humor directed at coworkers
These revelations have sparked intense debate within Nigeria’s tech ecosystem about workplace ethics, leadership accountability, and the growing expectations placed on senior figures in the industry.
