PDP Crisis Deepens: Wike’s NEC Expels Top Party Leaders, Gov. Seyi Makinde and 2 other Governors

In a sweeping disciplinary move at Tuesday’s 103rd National Executive Committee meeting held at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja, the NEC aligned with the Wike faction announced the expulsion of several senior party figures, including Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara) and party elder Chief Bode George.

The committee also approved suspensions for a number of prominent leaders — among them former Board of Trustees chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara, former minister Senator Kabiru Tanimu Turaki and Deputy National Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja — citing sustained anti-party conduct.

In addition, the NEC ratified the dissolution of State Executive Councils in Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos, Edo and Ekiti, a move observers say signals a comprehensive reshuffle of the party’s state-level leadership.

Presenting the memo that led to the expulsions, Acting National Chairman Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman said the decisions were prompted by the affected members’ repeated disregard for court orders, behaviour he argued had damaged the party’s reputation and undermined internal discipline.

“These measures are intended to protect the organisation and restore order,” the acting chairman said, according to officials at the meeting. The NEC’s actions come amid an intensifying factional struggle within the PDP as rival camps jostle for control ahead of major electoral contests.

Political analysts describe Tuesday’s resolutions as one of the most consequential disciplinary episodes in the party’s recent history, likely to deepen internal divisions and prompt legal and political responses from the affected leaders.

As the fallout unfolds, sources say further statements and potential court challenges from the expelled and suspended members are expected in the coming days, raising fresh questions about the PDP’s unity and readiness for upcoming elections.
