In a significant step toward reshaping Nigeria’s higher education landscape, Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is spearheading a strategic partnership with Coventry University to deliver internationally recognized UK degrees within Nigeria.
The initiative, currently under development, aims to eliminate the long-standing need for Nigerian families to send their children abroad in search of quality education. Instead, students will soon be able to access globally accredited academic programs at home at a fraction of the cost.
At the heart of the plan is the proposed establishment of Coventry University Nigeria, with a campus expected to be located in Alaro City, Lagos. The institution is projected to offer a wide range of Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs across key disciplines, including STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine), Business, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
Pending regulatory approvals, admissions are anticipated to begin between the third and fourth quarters of 2026.
This initiative goes beyond expanding access to education it represents a broader national strategy to strengthen Nigeria’s human capital.
