Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has been declared the winner of the Osun State governorship election held on Saturday, August 15, 2026. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the final results on Sunday morning after collating votes from all 30 local government areas.
Adeleke polled a total of 511,067 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji (also known as AMBO), who scored 444,815 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, came a distant third with 17,180 votes.
The returning officer for the election, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, Vice Chancellor of Federal University Oye-Ekiti, declared Adeleke duly elected after he satisfied all the constitutional requirements and secured the highest number of votes.
Adeleke won in 19 local government areas while Oyebamiji took the remaining 11. The victory gives the incumbent governor another four-year term in office.
How the Votes Were Shared Across the State
Adeleke recorded strong performances in his traditional strongholds, especially in Ede North, Ede South, Osogbo, Iwo and Ife East. In Ede North, he scored 35,427 votes against Oyebamiji’s 10,283. In Osogbo, the state capital, he polled 36,480 votes to the APC candidate’s 30,474.
Oyebamiji’s best showing came in Irewole Local Government, where he scored 29,972 votes against Adeleke’s 10,934. He also edged Adeleke in Olorunda, Boripe, Ilesa East and a few other councils.
The election was largely peaceful according to reports from observers, though some isolated incidents were recorded. Collation of results began late on Saturday night and continued into the early hours of Sunday.

What This Victory Means
This is Adeleke’s second term as governor of Osun State. He first won the seat in 2022 under the Peoples Democratic Party before later moving to the Accord Party for the 2026 contest.
The result shows that Adeleke maintained strong support in many parts of the state despite the stiff challenge from the APC. His margins in Ede North and Ede South were particularly wide, while the APC held firm in several local governments in the Ijesha and Irewole areas.
With the declaration completed, Adeleke is expected to continue in office for another four years. The APC is yet to formally react to the final results, though party agents were present throughout the collation process.
The Osun 2026 governorship election remains one of the key off-cycle polls this year, and the outcome will shape the political landscape of the state going forward.
