The coalition includes the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by David Mark, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chaired by Kabiru Turaki, and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
In a communiqué released after the meeting, the parties vowed to strongly resist what they described as the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s attempts to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.
They declared: “Despite the ruling APC’s relentless efforts and schemes to impose President Bola Tinubu as the only presidential candidate in 2027, we will field candidates and vigorously contest the 2027 presidential and other elections.”
The opposition parties further stated that they will collaborate to select and support one joint presidential candidate for 2027, aimed at rescuing the nation and alleviating the suffering of ordinary Nigerians.They also accused the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan, of showing clear bias in favour of the APC and demanded his immediate removal from office.
“Nigerians from all walks of life have completely lost confidence in him and his ability to ensure neutrality in conducting free, fair, transparent, and credible elections. His continued stay in office is provocative and could spark widespread crisis across the country,” the communiqué stated.
The parties urged the National Assembly to urgently review and amend the Electoral Act 2026 by removing all provisions they believe undermine the integrity and sanctity of future elections.
